All good things come to an end. I am new to Hyderabad and had used this airport almost every other weekend to meet my family in Mumbai. It’s a pain to realize that Hyderabad is losing its city center Airport. Infact Hyderabad does not have an Airport anymore.
Begumpet Airport was ideally located. Near to Hi-Tech City and Secundrabad. Never felt it crowded like Mumbai Airport. Its an Ideal domestic Airport. Now I don't think my air travel will be easier with distance and cost involved.
Infact a newspaper had a cartoon, which mentions about keeping the Begumpet airport open to reach Shamshabad Airport. I thought for a while that, it’s a good idea.
There is more involved here apart from having Hyderabad in the international aviation map. Money and property price fluctuation will benefit many. Need I name?
The MoU signed by the Private builder states that no airport be available for citizens of this city in 150 KM range from the new airport. Strange. This is the prime reason that Begumpet airport is been closed.
Are we living in a democratic country? Where is the will and need of people.
I have decided that I will not use this new airport. I will rather go to Chennai or Mumbai to catch a flight to other destinations. To Chennai and Mumbai, good old train. This is my way of rejecting government’s decision. Not sure how long I can maintain this abstain, but will give a try.
All said and done I will miss those Monday morning walks from Airport to Begumpet Flyover to avoid over charging Auto rickshaws to reach office.
Oh beautiful Hyderabad !!!
